Dashboard Design / Considerations (SAFEQ Cloud)

Module 5 of Intuitive Solution Expertise

In this module, we’ll cover the background information surrounding the dashboards for Intuitive for SAFEQ Cloud.

In a standard implementation of Intuitive for SAFEQ Cloud, there are 13 dashboards supplied, excluding Intuitive DX, which are listed down below.

  1. Executive Summary
  2. Cost
  3. User Analysis
  4. Volume Analysis
  5. Printer Analysis
  6. Scan Analysis
  7. Environmental Impact
  8. Cost & Volume Summary
  9. User Profile
  10. Top 100 Documents
  11. Comparison
  12. Active User List
  13. Daily / Weekly Stats

On each dashboard, the structure is composed of the dashboard launchers on the left hand side, with the main content / components in the middle and then the filters on the right hand side.

The dashboard launchers are individual components that reside on every single dashboard, excluding the Comparison page*. The dashboard launchers are HTML components, which do not contain any customer print data, but are just staging areas to launch HTML / CSS code.

*This is a caveat of Parent / Child dashboards, as only a single main component can be used. So therefore, we cannot add additional HTML components.

Each launcher is linked to its associated dashboard, which is then opened into a new tab. As the dashboard launchers are individual components, it therefore means they refresh on every single new tab or page refresh – it isn’t static content that moves from dashboard to dashboard.

With the launchers, there’s two main states they are displayed. There is an ‘active’ state which is indicated by a light-gray bar across its name. It’s other state is ‘inactive’ which removes that bar from its name. The ‘active’ state is only shown when the user is present on that dashboard.

Additionally, not all dashboards are shown on the left-hand side. This is by design, as some pages are meant to be navigated to via the paths designed in the print management solution. If users wish to enter those dashboard however, they can be navigated to via the main menu system via the icon in the top right.

With the implementation of Intuitive for SAFEQ Cloud, we handle the QR codes slightly differently. Previously, we linked to a single YouTube video for a ‘how-to’ for that page. In this new version, we instead link to our HubSpot Knowledge Base landing page, which displays all the available resources on one page.

The main content of each dashboard varies, as each one has been designed to take the user on a journey through their data and tell a story. You will have learnt about this through our prior Sales-based modules, which you can return to for a refresher. Solutions are typically designed to use 'Master' components (if applicable) on the left hand side of the content. However, on the right-hand side of each dashboard, you’ll usually find our filters. A mockup of this has been put down below for reference:

The filters typically sit on the right hand side to help give some muscle-memory for using newly added dashboards. Each filter has been designed to work with that particular dashboard, as the filters are specific to the kind of data that page should be filtering by.

The dashboards themselves follow what has become our Print Management template. This helps if customers have migrated from a SAFEQ6 implementation into the cloud, as whilst the data procedure has completely changed in the cloud, the face of the dashboards has remained the same. So customers will still be able to sink their teeth into the data, with less of a training spin-up time needed.

If we take a look at the Executive Summary dashboard and open the main filter icon at the top right, you can see we’re also using a ‘Year Flag’. This is a parameter we’ve created in the datafeed which is explained in a separate module.

The year flag is used here to only show data from the last 12 months, or a 1 for short. Should a customer have a requirement to alter the time ranges for the dashboards, this is one area to consider to alter. Should they have more than a years’ worth of data and want to show more, you could reuse this logic to have the flag equal 1 or 2, to instead use the last 2 years’ worth of data.

Other dashboards use different flags based on what exactly that dashboard needs to show. A general rule of thumb is that the User Profile uses 30 days, the Volume Analysis, Cost & Volume and Environmental use two years (for year-on-year analysis) and everything else is 12 months.

The Intuitive for SAFEQ Cloud dashboards are currently available in English in either GBP or USD, or alternatively in French in EUR. Should you have any other opportunities in other markets, please get in touch with Intuitive to discuss your requirements.

On a final note, the styling of Intuitive for SAFEQ Cloud has also been enhanced through a new development of the CSS. Previously, users had to manually edit the main.css file for on-premise applications, and edit exactly what they needed. As the file was thousands of lines long, this meant that any changes have been too time-consuming to make.

With this new version of the software, we’re able to a styles.css file which overwrites the associated main.css values. This means that the implemnentation engineer only needs to change/add what they need in the styles.css file, and can ignore other areas of the software that aren’t relevant to their styling requirements. Please note however, the Intuitive team will only be able to apply these changes for you, but should you wish to get hands-on with the styling, please get in touch with the Intuitive team.

The styling of the dashboard software has been created as a collaboration with the Y Soft Marketing team. The colours and logos used have been coordinated with them, and have been given their approval to use.

Should customers wish to change this styling however, there are a breadth of options they can change, including, but not limited to:

  • Banner colour
  • Menu icons and colours
  • Dashboard launchers  / launcher background
  • Logos
  • Active tab colours
